ABOUT THE PUBLICATION
Chapter & Chronicle is an independent literary magazine dedicated to original storytelling, thoughtful essays, cultural reflection, fantasy, fiction, and writing concerned with the inner and outer lives we lead.
It was created as a home for work that deserves to be read with care. Within its pages, readers will find stories of imagined kingdoms and difficult choices, essays that pause over culture and modern life, reflections on health and wellbeing, and pieces that return attention to the quieter experiences that often shape us most. The magazine is broad in subject but deliberate in spirit. It exists for writing with atmosphere, intelligence, sincerity, and a reason to endure beyond the moment of publication.
Chapter & Chronicle is produced by a collection of independent writers who contribute their own original work. Each selected piece is reviewed and edited under the guidance of the Editor-in-Chief before publication, with the intention of honouring the writer’s voice while ensuring the magazine maintains a consistent standard of clarity, quality, and editorial care. The result is a publication built not around a single perspective, but around a gathering of voices: some established, some emerging, all with something worth saying.
The magazine moves between the real and the imagined without treating either as lesser. Fantasy and fiction offer the pleasure of departure, but also the possibility of recognition. Essays and reflective pieces may begin in ordinary life, but often arrive somewhere stranger, deeper, or more revealing than expected. Health and wellbeing are approached not as slogans or instructions, but as part of the wider human story: how people endure, recover, hope, grieve, believe, change, and continue.
At the heart of Chapter & Chronicle is a belief in creative ownership. Writers who publish here remain the owners of their original work. Their stories, characters, worlds, essays, ideas, and creative expression remain theirs. Chapter & Chronicle exists to offer a platform, editorial support, and a considered home for their writing; it does not exist to take possession of what they have made. We believe that publication should open doors for writers, not close them.
We hope that, in time, Chapter & Chronicle becomes a place where readers discover voices they remember and writers find the confidence, visibility, and recognition to continue building their creative lives. A story published here may be a beginning, a chapter in a longer journey, or simply the right home for a piece that needed somewhere to live. However it arrives, it is treated with respect.
The name reflects the spirit of the magazine. A chapter suggests intimacy: a room entered, a page turned, a portion of a larger journey. A chronicle suggests memory: the act of gathering what matters and allowing it to remain. Together, they speak to the kind of publication Chapter & Chronicle hopes to be — a place of beginnings, continuations, discoveries, and records worth keeping.
Whether you come here for wonder, reflection, comfort, curiosity, or the pleasure of finding a voice that speaks to you, you are welcome.
Thank you for reading.
