To human eyes, it is merely an old Education Centre. Beyond the Veil, however, it is Orwell Hell High, where vampires, werewolves, witches, dragons, harpies, demons and ghouls share the same corridors and some very old grudges, making an already lethal education considerably more complicated. In this darkly comic fantasy series, the school’s magic is failing, and someone is determined to make this term its last.

Only nine dragon eggs herald the new century, and the last has chosen Catryn, a woman who has spent seven years escaping her family, only to learn that destiny, like her relatives, ignore a closed door. As gods and great houses descend to claim its future, Catryn must defy the world that raised her, or deliver another dragon into its keeping and become the very evil she fled.

Across Earth, tides turn against themselves, clocks lose their certainty, and machines and memory alike defy their own laws as something buried beneath the world stirs. Scattered across the world and grown rather adept at passing for ordinary, twelve fallen immortals begin to dream of a catastrophe they cannot explain. Whatever they lost is calling them home, yet none of them knows what answering will awaken.
